IT Project Manager
We are pleased to announce a vacancy for an IT Project Manager in Ethiopia’s Technology function. We are looking for someone who meets the following criteria to meet our current business needs.
Description in Detail
The position holder will coordinate and manage the delivery of Complex Information, Communications, and Technology solutions for Safaricom projects, reporting to the Programme Manager. This position will be in charge of project start-up, execution, control, and closure.
Responsibilities on the Job
- To create a formal and comprehensive project plan by integrating and documenting project deliverables, acceptance criteria, processes, procedures, risks, and tasks to aid in project execution, control, and closure;
- MS Project, Sharepoint, and Project Initiation Documents (Statement of Works, Governance Structure, Communication Plan, Risk Management Plan) will be used to track and improve project performance.
- To enforce quality gates during project implementation. This will entail stakeholder engagement and the use of a communication management tool throughout the project’s life cycle until completion.
- To carry out the project plan by ensuring the completion of project activities and tasks that result in project deliverables.
- Risks and issues must be managed and escalated appropriately throughout the project life cycle.
- Changes to triple constraints must be implemented by the defined change management process.
- Ensure that CAPEX is used and received on time for all assigned projects.
- Prepare and distribute project reports and updates, as well as governance meeting presentations, on time.
- Contribute to the project management knowledge base by appropriately sharing lessons learned, best practices, and research to improve the quality of project management services, develop colleagues’ capabilities, and advance the profession.

- Degree in Information Technology or a Business-Related Field
- Experience as a project team member in a large IT project with a certificate in project planning/project management expertise or PRINCE 2 or PMP or Agile.
- At least four years of experience managing IT projects is required.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and experience with Waterfall and Agile project delivery concepts.

The position holder will design, build, deliver, and support IT Private Cloud and Data Centre Core Infrastructure that will serve all of the Company’s needs, reporting to the Head of Infrastructure and Operations. The incumbent will lead a team and manage Vendors who provide system planning, support, monitoring, and administration for the Company’s Private Cloud Infrastructure based on VMware Virtualization. Windows and Unix/Linux environments with various servers, storage and SAN systems, and Container Platforms.
Responsibilities on the Job
- Build, maintain, and support high-performance, fault-tolerant, scalable, and distributed cloud and infrastructure solutions.
- Responsible for interacting with application support teams to ensure that applications are designed and implemented with scalability, reliability, and security in mind from the start, as well as defining road maps for the solutions.
- Responsible for establishing and improving team processes and workflows to maximize people and system efficiency and productivity.
- In charge of evaluating cloud technologies and developing digital transformation models and roadmaps.
- Provide team leadership in the processes and management of Cloud Infrastructure applications operations.
- Vendor management and SLA enforcement to ensure that the business receives world-class Cloud Infrastructure services.
- Lead the automation of infrastructure on a large scale to support the scaling of digital services and the adoption of new technologies within the Infrastructure and cloud support team.
- Implementation of tactical service improvements, upgrades, and system patching are all part of the role.
- Server hardware, operating system software, and Active Directory are all examined.
- Assist in the planning, design, implementation, and support of Container Platforms using Micro-services technologies.
- Liaise with users, hardware and software vendors, and internal system owners to fine-tune all systems’ hardware and software.
- Provide team leadership in Backup Operations efficiency and capacity growth roadmaps based on business needs.
- Provide technical assistance for assigned company initiatives and projects. Participation in feasibility and testing studies for new IT infrastructure components.
- System documentation and procedures must be kept up to date.
- Managing capital expenditures and operating expenses for infrastructure and services.
- Create tools for yourself and others to increase efficiency and make difficult tasks easier. Assist the Cloud and Infrastructure Support team with team management.
- Administer, configure, and troubleshoot private or cloud-based servers running Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux in a physical, virtualized, or containerized environment.
Job Prerequisites
- BSc degree in computer science, computer technology, or engineering; 5+ years of experience in infrastructure support and/or planning in a mixed VMware/Redhat virtualized environment.
- 5 years of virtualization and cloud platform experience
- Experience with OpenStack and other cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of container/PaaS orchestration/management platforms like Kubernetes, OpenShift, CloudFoundry, and Tanzu.
- Knowledge of enterprise Linux and Windows operating systems is required.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud and infrastructure operations.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud application management and operations.
- Knowledge of backup strategies and BCP policies.
- Excellent understanding of vendor management and SLA enforcement
- Experience with Configuration Management and Automation tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Terraforms is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of build tools, CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile principles, as well as cloud knowledge and integration models.
- Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and leadership communication skills.
