Injibara University information

In the belief that education is a tool for eradicating poverty, Ethiopia chose to increase access to higher education. The second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) has built 11 new universities in respect of this core idea. One of these universities is Injibara University, which was founded. On February 8, 2015, His Excellency Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, lay the foundation stone for the institution. On November 4, 2015, the Council of Ministers formally formed it.

One of the ten administrative zones of the Amhara National Regional State, Awi Zone, is home to Injibara University. The Metekel Zone, North Gondar Zone, and West Gojam Zone all abut the zone’s western, northern, and eastern edges, respectively. The administrative town centre of Awi Zone served as the inspiration for the university’s name. The inhabitants of Awi have historically used a strategy of land management that is well suited to the local environment and allows them to maintain fertility and reduce soil erosion. It is acknowledged as one of the most fruitful places in the area.

The goal of Injibara University is to generate qualified graduates who can support the robust green economy efforts of the Ethiopian government and others. The university’s name will be synonymous with its green campus, energy, and curriculum. The curricula must be designed to promote initiatives for a green economy and the growth of small businesses. The institution is conveniently located and blessed with a high annual rainfall that lasts for more than six months, fertile land, a steady supply of water, and lush mountains. Therefore, it is crucial to combine learning-teaching, research, and community service activities with the preservation of natural resources and the growth of green projects.

Over the past five years, the university has made enormous strides in the areas of academic programme growth, research, community participation, administrative challenges, cooperation, and landscaping. The university has been managing the teaching and learning process with roughly 15000 students and 460 academic staff members spread over six colleges and one school in the 2021/22 academic year. The institution now offers 43 postgraduate programmes and 54 undergraduate programmes.
