He pointed out that the main construction materials needed to build the ground for container unloading are available in sufficient supply and stated that they are working to complete and hand over the construction in a standard manner.
He pointed out that they are being closely monitored and supported by the Dredawa administration, Ethio Djibouti Railway Transport SA and the parties involved in the expansion construction.
Abdi Zeneb (Dr.), Chief Executive Officer of Ethio-Djibouti Railway Transport Inc., who reminded that more cargo unloading services have been started in Dredawa recently, pointed out that the expansion construction project will further help the growing activity of income and expenditure. In addition to this, he said that it will help the developers who are entering the free trade zone in Dredawa to transport their products quickly and efficiently by train.
It is stated that the construction of the expansion project started in Dredawa will not only create temporary and permanent job opportunities for the local community, but when the construction is completed and services will start, we will bring more job opportunities and it will further stimulate the economy of our country.
Elders and youths in Boren Kebele of Aseliso cluster under the administration of Dredawa and Jedene Kebele of Shenile District of Somali region and the local youth said that they will work together with the security forces to prevent thefts that may be committed on the railway line in their Kebeles. They held consultations with the relevant Kebele leaders and officials regarding their next solutions.
Recently, the Boren Kebele of the Asseliso Cluster Boren Kebele and Jedene Kebele of the Shinle District of Somaliland have been experiencing an unusual number of thefts on the railways for many months.
A wide discussion was held in the presence of the leaders of the cluster management, security and justice leaders, the head of road safety of the administration’s transport and logistics authority, the head of public relations of the Ethio-Djibouti subway station, the leaders of the two kebeles, the residents of the Boren kebele, in order to prevent the problem jointly and coordinately and track down the perpetrators of theft.
During the discussion, the local community guards the line itself day by day, but the three-legged vehicles walk at different hours at night and the railway company did not hire and assign an independent security guard to guard the railway line passing through the Kebele.
The residents said that they will follow up on the crime of theft and report it to the security agency, and they urged the company to work on providing immediate solutions to the issues promised to the local community by the underground railway company in previous discussions. He said that in the future, the administrative leadership, the security forces and the transport department should come periodically to exchange information and discuss. Leaders present at the meeting also recalled that thefts had been committed on this railway line in the past, but in discussions with the community, no problem had occurred for more than six months and the security of the line was maintained. .
Although it is disappointing that this problem has happened today, it has been stated that one of the individuals suspected to have committed the act has been arrested and work is being done to track down the others. The water tankers that were promised to the community in the past have been purchased and will be delivered soon, but the role that the train is playing in the economy of the country and these stolen bolts are imported with foreign currency, so it will be difficult to replace them and it will be a reason to stop the movement of the train. In addition to this, it is stated that in order to carry out his national responsibility, he will continue to talk to the subway and work to get people from the local community who are qualified and meet the requirements for security work to be approached by the Kebele administration and employed as security guards.
Finally, a peace value group consisting of 2 women and 6 men, led by the Kebele community policing officer, is responsible for monitoring and reporting similar illegal activities in the Kebele region. It is a public relations department.
